Nata is cream, but the pastry is actually an egg yolk custard in a flakey cup-shaped crust). (We didn\u2019t get to the Belem bakery that made that pastry famous.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 8<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Time Out Market, a huge upscale food court-type place. Ice cream at Gelato Davvero.<\/li><li>Troppo Squisito, Italian restaurant in Pra\u00e7a do Comercio.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Porto<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 9<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Confeitaria Sical, Pra\u00e7a Lencastre. Burgers \u2013 regular and soya.<\/li><li>Deslumbraltura, caf\u00e9 in Ribeira. Light dinner: tuna, vegan hamburger.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 10<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Pastelaria Nova Gaia, apple and almond tarts.<\/li><li>Casa Ad\u00e3o, traditional lunch. Salada mista, salada de pimento, caldo verde, bolinho de bacalhau.<\/li><li>O Balc\u00e3o, Pra\u00e7a Lencastre. Tasty food here: roasted vegetables, don\u2019t remember the rest, but we liked it.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 11<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Praia do Titan, caf\u00e9 on the Matosinhos beach. Sumo da laranja and pasteis.<\/li><li>CaipiCompany \u2013 Molhe, at the south end of the beach, near Castelo de Queijo. Pizza for lunch.<\/li><li>Ro Ramen e Outros, Japanese-Portugese fusion across the street from our apartment. Okonomiyaki, veggies and chicken with a white sauce binding it into a sort-of pancake.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 12<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>CaipiCompany \u2013 Molhe, pizza. or was this restaurant somewhere else?<\/li><li>Hotel Mercure restaurant. Veggie burger &amp; sopa do dia.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 13<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Canela Moscada, breakfast snacks.<\/li><li>Cubo, hamburgers \u201cgourmet\u201d the receipt says.<\/li><li>Honu Poke Bowls, around the corner from Livraria Lello. Choose your own salad bowl. Very good.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 14<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Caf\u00e9 Apolo, snacks.<\/li><li>Casa do Conto. Snacks while we waited in their courtyard for the expats meeting.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Braga&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 15<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>AS TIBIAS DE JOAO, bakery right outside the Arco da Ponta Nova. Breakfast pastries<\/li><li>A Brasileira, large caf\u00e9 next to the Pra\u00e7a da Republica. Lunch of salada bacalhau, sande atum.<\/li><li>Dow Gelado, ice cream shop with a window on the street.<\/li><li>Felix Taberna, on the ground floor below our apartment. Beautifully cooked steak (we don\u2019t always eat vegetarian)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 16<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>AS TIBIAS DE JOAO, breakfast pastries<\/li><li>Hoteis do Bom Jesus, snack bar at one of the hotels next to Bom Jesus<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 17<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Lunch with David C. in Pra\u00e7a Municipio. Menu do dia for all of us.<\/li><li>Anjo Verde, vegetarian restaurant right next to our apartment building in Pra\u00e7a Velha. (No receipt, paid cash.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 18&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>AS TIBIAS DE JOAO, breakfast pastries<\/li><li>Desperta Canela, caf\u00e9 for lunch. Barely remember it. Salad with sardines, bifana, pastel Nata.<\/li><li>Hibiscus, vegan\/vegetarian buffet for dinner.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 19<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>AS TIBIAS DE JOAO, breakfast pastries, again!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Coimbra<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 19<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>KEBAB MIR BABA, Turkish fast food. They advertised lamejun, spelled in a Portuguese way, but when they used it as a sandwich wrap, you couldn\u2019t tell if it was as good as lamejun from Watertown, MA.<\/li><li>Ragu, handmade pasta and delicious herby lemonade<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 20&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Servicios de Accao Social, Univ of Coimbra, lunch in a university cafeteria of the quality you\u2019d expect, with very courteous servers<\/li><li>Nova Gama Gourmet, bakery among the Santa Clara stores at the bottom of our hill<\/li><li>Cordel Maneirista, high-end traditional Portuguese. Our meal included a bread sausage. We thought this was the fancy hamburgaria, but that was downstairs and always closed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lisbon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 21<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Organi Chiado (Estimular Sentidos), vegan restaurant in Chiado, one of the best vegan restaurants I\u2019ve ever been to. Marinated tofu with several salads, pureed sweet potato, basmati rice, veggie burger, limonada.<\/li><li>A Arte da Comida, traditional Portuguese restaurant. A whole fish, rather bony; grilled chicken.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">June 22<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Eat Bacalhoeiros, vegetarian restaurant in Chiado. Avocado toast, mixed mushrooms toast, watermelon-ginger drink.<\/li><li>CAFE MARTINHO DA ARCADA, caf\u00e9 in Pra\u00e7a de Com\u00e9rcio. Pastel de Nata and Caf\u00e9.
