I thought it might be nice to list out our itinerary over the next few posts now that we know what it is. Yet another do-over of the Iceland Blog. 🙂

We left Boston on Tuesday night and arrived in Iceland on Wednesday morning where we got a PCR Covid test and had to quarantine for a few hours waiting for the results. They don’t promise results in less than 24 hours but it’s typically much shorter. Since its not a guarantee, though, you need to have a room to stay in for the full time. We booked a room at Keflavik MicroSuites near the airport.

We took a taxi to Keflavik MicroSuites, but the taxi driver didn’t recognize the name and when Pam tried looking up the address in her notes but it was wrong. The taxi drove off and we rang the bell at the address, but it was someone’s residence. A rude awakening for them at approx 7am. We tried again with Google Maps and found the hotel was a 5-min walk away.

At the MicroSuites there’s no front desk or office. We found a door that had a phone number taped up next to the doorbell. Pam called and the woman who answered seemed glad to hear from us and let us in to an upgraded, larger room at that early hour. (We had emailed several times about arriving early but had had no response.)

There was a great rain-style shower (notable that the hot water smells of sulphur as is true pretty much throughout Iceland). We slept, waiting for COVID results, which came around noon. We had a late lunch at very nice restaurant across the street, the Library Café. Afterwards, we walked along the harbor near a yellow lighthouse. To the east, we could see a trail of smoke in the sky from the volcano.

The bay near Keflavik harbor, with art along the shore walking path.

[Originally a review post, but now we’ve moved it to the start] As you might have noticed, this is a fairly stream of consciousness trip blog.
